VA Comes Out Against Bills on Medical Cannabis for Veterans

The US Department of Veterans Affairs has chosen not to support legislation aimed at providing veterans with access to medical cannabis. In spite of the fact that opioids steal the lives of 115 Americans every day. Lethal opioid overdoses among VA patients are almost twice the national average. The VA ultimately has decided that they can’t support any bills that are counter to federal laws on cannabis.

Three of the bills before the House Veterans Affairs health subcommittee relate to medical marijuana. One, the Veterans Equal Access Act, H.R. 1647, sponsored by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Oregon, would allow VA health providers to recommend medical marijuana to their veteran patients and fill out the necessary paperwork for them to enroll in state marijuana programs.[…]
