Illinois Likely to be Next to Legalize Cannabis. Here’s What You Need to Know.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has announced that he’s got the backing of key lawmakers to legalize adult use (21+) cannabis. The vote would happen this year and go into effect in 2020. Licenses for growing, production and dispensary sales could start as soon as May or July of 2020.
Adults could possess up to 30 grams (about an ounce) and non-residents, 15 grams. The law, when passed, would also wipe out the low-level cannabis convictions of thousands of people in the state.
