Texas: Governor Signs Law Legalizing Hemp Production, CBD Products
Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Monday, with little pomp or circumstance, quietly signed into law the legalization of hemp production and hemp-derived CBD products. Before this had happened, hemp and CBD were considered the same as cannabis containing more than 0.3 percent THC.
So, now Texans can buy and use CBD products and stores can sell them without fearing arrest or confiscation of their products. Farmers are now free to get licensed to grow and produce hemp and hemp products. This law goes into effect immediately.
Heather Fazio, director of Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy, called the bill’s signing into law “a big step for Texans and one we can all be proud of.”
“The Texas Legislature got at least one thing right this session when they legalized hemp. Finally, Texas farmers are no longer cut out of this lucrative agricultural market. Plus, Texans are now free to use CBD without fear of arrest,” Fazio said in a statement. […]
