Fatty Foods Make CBD More Effective

Fatty foods make CBD more effective. It’s true! New data from the University of Minnesota surprised scientists looking at the effects of fasting and fatty foods on CBD’s effectiveness.

The researchers used 99% pure CBD capsules for the study. They worked with patients at the MINCEP Epilepsy Care clinic. Researchers wanted to see how CBD absorption was affected by diet. They worked with patients who suffer seizures.

Some survey participants took their CBD capsules on an empty stomach and some took theirs with a breakfast burrito. The results were clear. It turns out that fatty foods make CBD more effective. How? Well, more of it is absorbed by the body. In fact, CBD absorption rates increased anywhere from 4 to 14 times.

“For epilepsy patients, a goal is to maintain consistent blood concentrations of drug. This study shows that CBD concentrations could vary significantly if patients take it differently, sometimes with or without food. Variations in blood concentrations could leave a patient more susceptible to seizures.”

What this means for everyone who takes CBD orally, is that you can take less by consuming fatty food with it. So, you’ll get the same benefit as before. And, ultimately, you’ll save money which is awesome, right?

As we all know, CBD is not cheap and if you need it to prevent seizures, it’s not something you can skip.

“Increases in the amount of the CBD dose being absorbed into the body can also lead to lower medication costs.”

The study found:

  • CBD exposure is vastly increased when CBD is taken with high fatty foods;
  • when compared to fasting, taking CBD with food increased the amount of CBD in the body by four-times and the maximum amount recorded in the participants’ blood by 14-times;
  • no cognitive differences were identified, which is consistent with previous studies.


Now, no one is saying you should only eat cheeseburgers and drink milkshakes just because you take CBD. In fact, that would probably kill you. But, it is really encouraging to find out that there’s a simple way to maximize your CBD. Just take it with food…fatty food, to get the most bang for your buck.
